Description From Owner:

Pop. 1,653. In Clarke T., Durham C., on Orono Cr. 1 km W of Hwys 35 & 115, 18 km N of Bowmanville. The post office was established in 1852.
During a meeting in the blacksmith shop to select a name for the post office, a visitor from Maine is reported to have suggested Orono after a town in that state that honours the Penobscot chief Orono.
During the American Revolution he took the side of colonists who opposed British rule.
