Pop. 75. In Durham Reg. on C. Rds. 2 & 5, 15 km. NW of Oshawa.
1853 the community's first post office was named Newtown. Two years later the first postmaster, Samuel Harnden, named the place after Fitzroy James Henry Somerset, 1 st Baron Raglan (1788-1855) who died in the Crimea six months later.
